Out of Order, but Still in His Hands

Funny of a lady saying shes out of order

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” —1 Peter 5:7

I saw this funny picture of a woman sitting in her chair, looking completely exhausted, with a sign on her forehead that reads, “OUT OF ORDER.” Above her are the words, “I’m just gonna put an out of order sign on my forehead and let God handle the rest.”

I had to laugh because, if we’re being truthful, haven’t we all had days when we felt exactly that way?

There is something meaningful in that picture.

Sometimes life becomes overwhelming. The responsibilities keep piling up, problems seem to arrive faster than solutions, and everyone needs something from us. We try to keep smiling, stay organized, and hold everything together, but eventually we reach a point where we simply feel worn out.

We may not actually put an “Out of Order” sign on our foreheads, but there are days when we certainly feel like we should!

And perhaps that’s when we need to remember something important.

God never expected us to handle everything on our own.

First Peter 5:7 reminds us to cast our anxieties upon Him because He cares for us. Notice that Scripture doesn’t tell us to carry our burdens until we become stronger. It tells us to give them to the One who is already strong enough to handle them.

Sometimes we confuse being faithful with being constantly busy. We feel guilty when we rest, worry when things remain unfinished, and convince ourselves that everything depends upon us.

But it doesn’t.

God is still working when we’re resting. He is still in control when our plans fall apart. And He is still faithful when we reach the end of our strength.

That doesn’t mean we abandon our responsibilities or stop doing what God has called us to do. It means recognizing the difference between what He has entrusted to us and what only He can accomplish.

We can pray, make wise decisions, and faithfully do our part while trusting Him with the things beyond our control.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is stop trying to fix everything, sit quietly in God’s presence, and admit that we need His help.

The woman in this picture may be joking about being out of order, but her little sign carries a wonderful reminder.

Just because we’re running out of strength doesn’t mean God is running out of power.

And when we feel completely worn out, we can rest in knowing that we’re still safely in His hands.

Make It Personal:

  • Have you been carrying responsibilities or worries that you need to surrender to God?
  • Do you struggle to rest because you feel everything depends upon you?
  • What would change today if you trusted God with what you cannot control?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for caring about every burden I carry. When I feel exhausted and overwhelmed, remind me that I don’t have to handle everything alone. Help me faithfully do my part while trusting You with the rest. Give me peace, renewed strength, and the wisdom to know when to stop and rest in Your care. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
