  • A Tower That Points Toward Heaven

A Tower That Points Toward Heaven

“Be still, and know that I am God.” —Psalm 46:10

During my visit to Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida, I was reminded of something beautiful about God’s creation. Rising above the surrounding gardens stands the magnificent Singing Tower, a remarkable structure surrounded by peaceful landscapes, towering trees, and the beauty of nature. The tower’s carillon bells can fill the gardens with music, creating an atmosphere that invites visitors to slow down and appreciate the moment.

There is something meaningful in that picture.

We live in a world that rarely slows down. Our schedules are filled with responsibilities, appointments, and endless distractions. Even when we have a few quiet moments, we often reach for our phones or begin thinking about everything we still need to accomplish.

Sometimes we become so busy moving through life that we forget to stop and recognize God’s presence around us.

Bok Tower was built with a purpose beyond simply creating something beautiful. Its founder, Edward Bok, wanted to provide a place of beauty, reflection, and peace. His famous words, “Make you the world a bit better or more beautiful because you have lived in it,” continue to inspire visitors.

What a wonderful reminder of how we should live as followers of Christ!

God hasn’t placed us here simply to fill our calendars, accomplish tasks, and hurry from one responsibility to another. He has given us opportunities to make a difference through kindness, encouragement, generosity, and love.

And sometimes the first step toward making that difference is simply becoming still enough to listen.

Psalm 46:10 reminds us to be still and recognize that He is God. Stillness doesn’t mean that our problems disappear or our responsibilities suddenly become easier. It means intentionally turning our attention away from life’s noise and toward the One who holds everything in His hands.

As I think about that beautiful tower rising above the gardens, I am reminded that our lives should point others toward something greater than ourselves.

Just as the tower rises above the surrounding landscape, our faith should lift people’s attention toward the goodness of God.

We may never build a magnificent tower or create a beautiful garden, but every day gives us opportunities to leave something meaningful behind.

A kind word. An answered need. A prayer. A life that points someone toward Jesus.

And perhaps that is the greatest beauty we can leave in this world.

    Make It Personal:

    • Are you allowing enough quiet moments in your life to recognize God’s presence?
    • How can you make someone’s world a little better or more beautiful today?
    • Does the way you live encourage others to look toward Jesus?

    Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the beauty of Your creation and the quiet moments that remind me of Your presence. Help me slow down, listen to Your voice, and recognize opportunities to make a difference. May my life point others toward You and leave behind something beautiful for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  • Going in Circles

    Going in Circles

“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” —Hebrews 12:1–2

If you grew up playing on one of these old merry-go-rounds, you probably remember the excitement. A group of kids would climb aboard, grab the metal bars, and wait for someone to start pushing. The faster it spun, the louder everyone laughed and screamed. Some kids begged for more speed, while others were hanging on for dear life!

And who could forget trying to walk in a straight line after getting off? The world seemed to keep spinning even though the ride had stopped!

There is something meaningful in that picture.

A merry-go-round could spin as fast as we wanted, but no matter how many times we went around, we never actually went anywhere.

Sometimes life can feel exactly the same way.

We get up in the morning, go through our routines, handle our responsibilities, deal with problems, and fall into bed exhausted. The next morning, we get up and do it all over again.

We’re busy. We’re moving. We’re doing a hundred different things.

But are we actually moving forward?

It’s possible to become so caught up in the spinning of everyday life that we lose sight of where God wants us to go. We fill our schedules with activities, responsibilities, and distractions, yet sometimes neglect the very things that help us grow spiritually.

Time in God’s Word. Prayer. Encouraging others. Serving someone in need. Building relationships that matter. Sharing the love of Christ.

Hebrews reminds us that our Christian life is a race marked out for us, and we are called to run it with perseverance while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Notice that the writer doesn’t tell us to simply stay busy. He tells us to keep moving forward with purpose.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the merry-go-rounds of life. God gives us wonderful moments of laughter, fun, and memories along the way.

But He never intended for our entire lives to be spent going in circles.

Sometimes we need to slow down, step off the ride, and ask ourselves an important question:

“Am I just staying busy, or am I becoming the person God wants me to be?”

That old merry-go-round may have taken us around hundreds of times without moving us an inch from where we started.

But every day we walk with Jesus is an opportunity to grow, learn, serve, and move closer to the purpose He has for our lives.

And unlike that childhood ride, our journey with Christ is actually taking us somewhere.

    Make It Personal:

    • Have you ever felt like your daily routine keeps you moving but isn’t helping you grow spiritually?

    • Are there activities or distractions taking time away from what God has called you to do?

    • What is one step you could take today to move forward in your relationship with Jesus instead of simply going through the motions?

    Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the wonderful memories of childhood and the simple joys that remind me of Your goodness. Forgive me for the times I become so busy with everyday life that I lose sight of what truly matters. Help me recognize when I am simply going through the motions instead of growing closer to You. Give me wisdom to use my time wisely, courage to step away from unnecessary distractions, and a heart that desires to follow Your direction. Keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, and help me make each day count for Your kingdom. May my life be more than just movement—may it be a journey of faith, purpose, and growing closer to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
